• Struggling with life’s challenges? Feeling lost?

“Not until we are lost, do we begin to understand ourselves.” – Henry David Thoreau

The things life throws at us can be overwhelming.  It can be difficult to roll with the punches and can cause us to feel directionless and generally dissatisfied with life.

We get thrown off balance and find ourselves mired in uncertainty, anxiety, grief, and depression.

There’s too much to process and it’s hard to make decisions about anything because we just aren’t sure what to do.

We are pulled in a million directions and either feel like we’re on an emotional roller coaster or don’t allow ourselves to feel anything at all.

Allowing ourselves to feel is scary and we just don’t have time for that.

We push down our feelings rather than dealing with them, and eventually, they bubble up.  Life becomes unmanageable.  We are anxious, stressed, irritable, angry, sad, and possibly, grief-stricken.  We lose interest in things, motivation, and have difficulty finding meaning in life.  It impacts our self-esteem, relationships, and pursuit of our dreams… if we even remember what our dreams were.

If you are anything like me, you’re just longing to find some peace.

     This life is exhausting!

It’s a busy life and the thing we most often neglect is ourselves.

When was the last time you thought about what you really want out of life?  Most of us are trudging along on a treadmill.  Trying to take care of everyone and everything and giving little thought as to whether or not we are truly living.

It’s no wonder so many of us feel stressed, sad, alone and stuck.

You can create your best life by giving yourself the gift of time, space, and support to get lost, explore, grow, and create.

Counseling is a vessel to help you navigate your journey.  It is truly an adventure into connecting with your authentic self and creating the life you want to live.

“Art is an adventure into an unknown world which can be explored only by those willing to take risks. ” Mark Rothko
    “Creativity takes courage”

    – Henri Matisse

    About Jennifer van der Slice

I am an artist, Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Chemical Dependency Counselor that uses an integrative approach to therapy.

Integrative therapists hold a holistic, person-centered orientation. We draw from different evidenced-based modalities in active collaboration with the individual seeking support to determine the best way to meet their needs. As an integrative therapist, I incorporate complementary strategies to enhance the individual’s understanding of their mind-body connection and build knowledge, skills and resilience to meet life’s challenges.

In my view, life is a mosaic of choices, experiences, thoughts and feelings that create patterns like art, music, dance and other creative endeavors. Sometimes the patterns of our lives are obscured by our perspective. Sometimes we are too close to an issue, making it seem even more chaotic and challenging. We feel like we are stuck in a whirlpool with no apparent way out or as if beaten down by wave after wave of the challenging life events. If we can take a step back, float, rest, observe and allow ourselves creative space, we can find ways to swim through the waves.

I believe that as human beings we have the power to change what is in our control. With courage and creative exploration of ourselves, we can sculpt our own lives. We can transform ourselves and create more harmonious and authentic lives.

I believe that real growth is in the process. I am pragmatic. Certain practical tools come in handy, so I utilize evidence-based therapeutic approaches to help build practical skills for addressing problems, but where our souls lie…where our hearts live…there, mindfulness and creativity are the direct lines to those aspects of ourselves. That with intention, we can create the landscapes of our lives, paint our own portraits and give shape to our dreams.
